[JP] Proto Cu Chulainn, in a nutshell, is a survivable critstriker. He doesn’t really go too far when it comes to damage, but he proves to be rather reliable in taking hits and dishing them out. He also has the unique niche of being able to counter Beast-type enemies fairly well, but it’s a rather small niche to cover in the first place, so it also doesn’t go too far.
[NA] Sadly, Proto Cu is one of the least recommended Lancers ingame so far, as he doesn’t really do much ingame.

Strategies & Tips
Cu does particularly well ingame--- you can’t really go too wrong with him. But he also leaves a lot to be desired.
He survives rather well with his Protection from Arrows skill, and he can hit somewhat decently with his Crit damage up buff and star absorb skill. However at the same time, his NP damage hits with average damage, and his crit buff doesn’t scale that far to make his crit damage amazing.
What Cu does offer is reliability--- Unlike Inshun and Jaguar Man, he cannot do amazing levels of damage on his own, and unlike his Stay/Night counterpart, he offers less survivability.
But he can offer both damage and survival, and excel at it to a good extent by being able to absorb stars and hit decently without sacrificing protection for himself.
As for his Anti-Beast niche, Cu does indeed offer quite some power against them. Although his niche is small enough one would ignore it, at the very least he is able to kill them quickly without fail. There have been a rise of rather tough beast enemies recently too, so it is not as if his niche is completely out of fashion.
Waver’s ATK up and DEF down can stack very well to boost Cu’s damage. He’s also able to charge his gauge directly, and buff his crit damage even further.
[JP] With his skill upgrade, Alexander is able to provide Cu with two different multiplicative buffs, which improves Cu’s crit damage very well, as it multiplies with his own buff.
[JP] Merlin is able to buff Cu’s damage very well with his 1st and 3rd skills, as well as generate stars passively for him to use. Since Proto Cu has 2 Busters on his deck, it would allow him to use Merlin’s Buster buff well enough as well.
An increase in crit damage is honestly not that good on Cu as it only adds up with his own buff, but some CEs give multiple effects he can benefit from. Due to Cu’s 3-hit Evade he is also able to make use of Knight’s Pride effectively, as he is able to ignore its demerit.

Much like his other self, Prototype Cu’s Gae Bolg is also rather lacking. It does decent damage due to NP5, but its secondary effects are mediocre. Without any upgrade or skill to buff it, it’s stuck with decent damage only.
Gae Bolg ()
Deals damage to a Single enemy. [Overcharge]Chance to cause instant death on one enemy. Reduces their defense for 3 turns.
As Cu’s main offensive buff, it functions well in boosting his crit damage decently. Although much like his entirety, it leaves a lot to be desired. A 45% increase is pretty nice, but it doesn’t go too far without other multipliers that can aid his damage further. Nevertheless it is a good skill, and allows Cu to deal decent crit damage.
The debuff resistance up is also a nice boost, and together with his passive it grants him 60% resistance against debuffs.
Protection from Arrows B / Cooldown: 7-5 Apply Evade (3 times)
As always, Protection from Arrows acts as one of the best survival skills ingame, and it is Cu’s only survival function. It grants him a great 3 time evade, which practically nullifies all damage he can take for 3 hits. As expected, with it’s short CD time it can be potentially looped perpetually. What makes such a skill amazing is that it provides acts as sustain and as a hard defensive skill for the Servant--- nullifying damage through an evade can allow the Servant to take on hard hits like NPs, and because of its hit-based nature it allows for the Servant to be sustained for the duration the effects are up.
Beast-Slayer B++ / Cooldown: 7-5 Increase damage against [Beast] enemies (3 turns) Increase star absorption rate (3 turns)
This skill allows Proto Cu to crit reliably, as it makes him absorb stars more efficiently. Against Beast enemies this skill also allows him to hit very well against them, as it scales for a 100% increase in damage at max.

A QQABB deck fits better on Proto Cu than his other self. 2 Qs allow him to generate a small amount of stars when performing Quick chains with his allies or with his NP, and having 2 Busters allow him to make use of his crit prowess better.
