With an unupgraded NP and a rather generic skillset, Proto Arthur is in a rather weak position compared to other similar Servants. Although his NP Overcharge effect and high ATK stat somewhat mitigates this, it is not nearly enough for him to be truly relevant.
Fortunately, Arthur does have a niche he excels at. His third skill increases his damage against large enemies by a whooping 100% at maxed skill level, allowing him to outdamage all of his peers in such situations. At first glance, this property seems highly situational - and it is - but it is supported by the fact that its targets are often the most annoying enemies to fight, typically possessing AoE normal attacks. This skill also charges his NP gauge by 20%, allowing him to be useful in farming compositions.
Pros
AoE NP and NP charging skill makes him a good choice for fast farming
Third skill makes killing large enemies much easier
Cons
Rather situational niche
Lower base NP damage
No survival function
Strategies & Tips
Arthur’s usage is fairly straightforward; that is, focusing all available buffs on his NP turn - preferably forming a Brave chain with at least one other Buster card. His second skill should be used to help ensure criticals in this same turn, while the third skill is used as needed depending on whether he is facing large enemies. He is best put in teams with solid damage support, in order to make up for his weaknesses.
Noble Phantasm
Excalibur: Sword of Promised Victory first increases his NP damage and then deals damage to all opponents. The amount of NP damage increased scales with Overcharge, meaning it can reach higher damage levels when needed via NP chains. Otherwise, it is generally better to use it to form an NP Brave chain, in order to make the most of his buffs.
The inclusion of Merlin allows Arthur to be considered for critical-based strategies, a huge asset for harder quests with higher HP enemies. He also provides healing and Invulnerability, which allows the team to survive far longer fights.
Best used in farming situations, Zhuge Liang allows Arthur to release his NP on the very first turn, even when equipping lower-tier starting NP CEs (30% starting NP gauge). He also provides enhanced damage and durability for a certain period, which is also ideal for teams aiming for fast-paced farming runs.
These Servants provide the much-needed damage increase for Arthur, while also contributing to the team via other utility measures. In the case of Nightingale, this comes in the form of heals, while Shakespeare provides additional NP charge for the team.
Best CEs
Buster Performance Up (Limited/Zero Over, Verdant Sound of Destruction, Heroine Eli-chan’s Adventure)
This CE type enhances Arthur’s normal Buster cards’ damage, allowing him to deal damage even outside his NP. Best used in more generic stages with only a single boss, as it makes his Brave chains more effective.
Starting NP (Kaleidoscope, Golden Sumo ~Rocky Area~, Imaginary Numbers)
Best used in farming scenarios, where an early NP is preferred over pure damage. Thanks to his third skill, these CEs allow him to unleash his NP early on reliably - possibly even on the first turn - especially with the inclusion of a support.
To be used in the rare scenario where there are multiple large enemies in one map, thus facilitating a need of higher NP damage. Under general situations, however, Buster performance CEs can be considered better due to Arthur’s unupgraded NP, especially when criticals are involved.

Mana Burst A A standard card performance up skill. However, being Arthur’s primary buffing skill, this skill takes precedence over the other two as Arthur relies heavily on it to be able to deal decent damage.
Instinct A A standard instinct skill. While getting additional critical stars is always nice, its impact is unfortunately limited when not maxed, and even then, it is not as impactful as other skills, mainly due to the fact that critical star generation can often be covered via use of support Servants, Craft Essences, or Mystic Codes.
Gigantic Beast Hunting A Although this skill is what makes Arthur special compared to other Servants, the fact that this skill’s NP charge effect doesn’t scale with additional levels mean that it is less important that Mana Burst, especially since the damage increasing effect is rather situational.
