Musahibou Benkei

Benkei is not a total failure in terms of his design. As much as the game overlooks the importance of weakening the enemies over overpowering them, Benkei skill sets is a still powerful ones if used appropriately. However while effects are certainly top tier, their effectiveness are very poor, and with competitions like Leonidas, Benkei definitely falls short, and ends up as a servant that lives just up to his rarity rather than exceeding it.

Skills with good effects: Benkei can disable skill of the enemy and also cast taunt on himself just like Leonidas, which are both top-tier tank/support skill sets. His NP acts as a discount Zhuge Liang NP, just short of Zhuge Liang’s charge decrease and DEF reduction, even without those, a chance to stun all enemies is still a powerful tool.

Skill ineffectiveness: As good as the skill effects are, it cannot be said the same for the effectiveness. All his skill last just for one turn, which makes Benkei just usable for one turn. This is why unlike a lot of low-rarity servants, who are praised for their uses beyond their rarity, Benkei acts as a servant just good enough as a UC servant, which will affect his appeal negatively.

The main problem of Benkei’s design is that his skills last too short, every skill he has only last for 1 turn, which is why you must calculate the best timing to use his skills. Also, there is no alternative use for him but support tank, since he has low ATK stats, and no skills assisting increasing his damage output. One good way to use Benkei would be to block skill of a servant who has NP charging skill when he has just one last charge to use his NP effectively surviving one NP turn. Another use would be to place the taunt when your main damage dealer is close to dying, forcing enemy fire on Benkei, and saving the teammate in danger.

His NP is equivalent that of Zhuge Liang, just short of Zhuge Liang’s DEF reduction and NP charge reduction. But fact that Benkei can be maxed much more easily than Zhuge Liang gives Benkei some competitive factor, but it is not strong enough for Benkei to be considered a competition for Zhuge Liang like Anderson can be.

Benkei has some NP spamming potential as he can art chain with his NP, but due to his below-average NP gain ATK rate, you will require a lot of supporting in buffing his NP gain to achieve this.
