Asterios doesn’t really rely on a skill upgrade to do his role well, but he does get an increase in damage with it. After the strengthening quest (currently unavailable on the EN ver) Asterios is a situational Zerk. He’s meant to debuff enemies so that he and his allies would receive less damage and deal more, but it comes at the cost of depending on the enemy and his allies extensively. That said, in some stages Asterios can be foolproof, and due to his accessibility and cost, it makes him rise in value.
Pros
NP has huge debuff for 1 turn.
NP lasts for 6 turns.
NP and skills combined boosts his stats incredibly well.
Extremely cheap skill costs and accessibility.
Cons
Dependent on enemy type and hit-counts for full performance.
Dependent on CE and allies for full performance.
Strategies & Tips
Asterios’ main forte is debuffing the enemy. His debuffs can let the enemy deal little damage against your party, and with his own skills he can easily tank hard and deal good hits despite being a 1* Zerker. However, he suffers from having lower NP gain, which makes his NP harder to circulate constantly. This is why he relies on either CE, enemy type, or allies. Asterios would need to rely on a CE to aid his NP gain, an enemy that attacks AoE or has high hitcounts, or Allies who can charge his NP. Due note, that one doesn’t necessarily need all these conditions for him to work.
Noble Phantasm
Asterios’ NP Reduces all enemies’ Def by 10% and Atk by 20% for 6 turns, and further reduces their def and atk by 40% on the first turn. At the first turn it totals to a 60% atk down and 50% def down. The NP lasting for 6 turns means that Asterios has enough charge time to to loop it, but due to his low NP charge rate, consistency is dependent on your setup and the enemy.
Hans is able to increase the chances for Asterios to gain NP through Arts chains, and is able to stack his def up and atk up with Asterios’ NP and skills. He can also provide healing, create stars and buff crit damage, which aids Asterios in surviving, dealing damage and charging NP.
Waver can provide def up to let your team tank better, and increase Asterios’ NP gauge to counter his weakness of charging NP. He can also provide a crit buff and more chances to form Arts chains.
Merlin is able to immediately counter Asterios’ weaknesses, as he can passively charge Asterios’ NP. He can also give heals, stars, and additional buffs to increase his HP and damage, which improves on Asterios’ performance overall. Currently unavailable on the EN ver.
Tamamo is able to recharge Asterios’ NP through her own, and can tank damage along with him with his NP on. She is also able to heal and increase the chances of forming Arts chains, which aids his overall survival and consistency. Currently unavailable on the EN ver.
After her upgrade, Mashu is able to buff the party’s damage and defense remarkably, which would easily stack with Asterios’ NP and shield the party from damage. She can also charge his NP with her 2nd skill, and taunt with her 3rd skill, which allows Asterios to live longer.
Best CEs
Increase in NP Gain
One of the conditions that Asterios relies on are the enemy’s hitcounts. If the enemy hits AoE, or if they have a high number of hits on their attacks, Asterios would be able to charge his NP very well by getting hit.
Asterios can bypass the condition of enemy hitcount through gaining NP per turn. While he would gain less NP overall, it would improve his overall consistency in using his NP.
Since Asterios can gain NP through getting hit, one can also put a CE to increase his defense to stack with his def up, which increases his overall survivability and let him charge while getting hit with less worry.
When equipped to Asterios (Berserker) only, increase Quick Card effectiveness for all allies by 15% while on the field

Monstrous Strength A:
A good skill to increase Asterios’ damage on his hits. With his NP, it totals to a 40% atk up, which increases his atk to the same level as Lu Bu.
Natural Demon A++
While the atk debuff resistance can be ignored, it does scale to 100% at max, which lets Asterios deal damage unhindered by enemy debuffs. But the most important part of the kit is the def up, as it gives him a great 40% def up. Even with his stats, a 40% def up gives Asterios a great shield against hits. And with his NP, he can instantly tank any attack with 100% effective def up on the first turn.
Labrys of the Abyss C
The Buster up scales to 30% at max, which lets Asterios deal great Buster crits that surpass his stats when buffed by his own kit. It’s fairly useful as an offensive measure, however one can also use it to critcharge his NP gauge when he gets an Arts card.

While a QABBB deck certainly boosts his damage considerably, it would’ve been far better to give Asterios a QAABB deck, to increase his NP gain so that his performance would be less dependent on the setup and on his allies.
