Tristan is a damage dealer - support hybrid Servant, as evidenced by his possession of both an NP charging skill and support type ones (AoE Evasion and buff removal). The Evasion skill is particularly notable, as only a few Servants are able to provide such a function. His single-target NP means that he will be able to deal acceptable damage even without buffs, and it even comes with an Evasion ignoring function. After his upgrade, his NP gains increased damage as well as a defense-ignoring property, meaning that it can only be blocked via Invincibility.
However, outside of his Evasion and situational buff removal, Tristan’s supporting functions are limited. Furthermore, his Evasion only lasts for one hit, which may create trouble in stages with multiple bosses. Tristan’s QQAAB deck means that he generally has less synergy with the team compared to most other supports. His NP charge skill also comes with a 1-turn NP seal to himself, further lessening his flexibility. Additionally, his lack of buff makes him insufficient as a primary damage dealer (even more so due to his NP being Quick-type, meaning that he needs an external Quick buff, which is rare among supports).
Pros
Only a few Servants offer an alternative to his AoE Evasion skill.
Able to do a decent amount of damage.
Buff removal adds to his flexibility, especially in harder quests.
Good NP gain due to second skill.
NP bypasses most defensive options.
Cons
Little to no sustainability support outside of his Evasion.
NP charge skill has a demerit.
Doesn’t excel at either of his roles.
Worse deck synergy compared to 3A Servants.
Evasion lasts for one hit.
Strategies & Tips
Tristan would mainly be used for his AoE Evasion, which would be used to tank opponents’ Noble Phantasm. His buff removal skill is also a valuable asset for harder quests. Generally speaking, Tristan should assist his allies’ NP generation (via Arts first cards), and his Evasion should be used in opponents’ NP turn.
Noble Phantasm
Failnaught is a Quick-type single-target damage-dealing Noble Phantasm, which applies an Evasion ignore buff to Tristan and reduces the target’s debuff resistance. After his NP upgrade, it also ignores the opponents’ defense buffs. Theis NP’s debuff resistance reduction is extremely situational, meaning that for most intents and purposes, it can be ignored. Evasion ignore may find use in certain quests; however, Tristan’s own limited damage potential means that his NP won’t be a significant gamechanger most of the time. - though this is somewhat made up by his NP upgrade.
Being built-in to a skill, Tristan’s Evasion is limited by his cooldown. This means that for faster-paced battles, another partner with a similar skill would be highly beneficial. Examples of such a Servant are David and Merlin.
With his Quick-oriented deck, Tristan is a good support option for critical-oriented teams, even more so in Quick-based ones. His Evasion provides easy access to survival, even in fast-paced battles.
As Tristan’s main value come from his Evasion skill, he needs little to no setup to perform his work. This means that he can be used in virtually any composition, sometimes even when fighting Lancers.
Enhance Tristan’s star generator and NP generation from Quick cards. They also increase his NP damage, making this type of CE the preferred one if he is to be used in critical-oriented teams.
Being mostly used for his supporting abilities, star generation CEs are a natural fit for Tristan, being able to complement his Quick cards’ star generation. This Craft Essence type is also recommended as Tristan, in a support position, needs little to no as help for himself.
Bringing Tristan’s NP damage up, this type of CE is best used when Tristan’s damage output is needed - either as a primary damage dealer, or in multiple-boss stages containing a Saber-class boss.
By completing Tristan Interlude Quest, his NP gains DEF-Ignore damage effect. Check the link above for the Interlude details.

Harp of Healing C
Applies an AoE Evasion on all allies, removing their mental debuffs and healing them for a small amount. While the mental debuff removal is rather situational and the heal is insufficient, the Evasion by itself means that this skill should be prioritized simply for the cooldown reduction.
Grace of the Unexpected Birth B
Charges Tristan’s own NP gauge, at the cost of applying an NP seal debuff on himself for one turn. This means that the skill usage’s timing may be somewhat tricky at times, though it is normally quite easy to get around. Still, it benefits greatly from cooldown reduction, and the percentage increase is always valuable.
Admonishment of the King of Knights B
This skill is notable for its buff removal, a highly valued asset in challenge quests. It also comes with a critical chance debuff, which is also a significant help in such scenarios. Due to its nature, the skill generally benefits less from the cooldown reduction (though there are exceptions).

Tristan’s QQAAB deck is somewhat awkward for his supportive role, as it means that the team will overall have a harder time performing Arts chains. Though he gains access to a Quick Brave chain, it is the weakest of the three card chains, and that he has a mediocre base star generation rate doesn’t help. Still, it helps him produce a good amount of stars due to the bonus, making him a decent ally in Quick-oriented teams.
