Vlad Extra is, in the simplest terms, a Buster-oriented damage dealer - tank hybrid. His main source of survivability comes from his first skill, Protection of the Faith A+++, which heals him as well as granting him greatly increased debuff immunity (3 turns) and defense (1 turn). These (particularly the defense buff) allows him to tank hits for one turn when compared with his third skill. On the other hand, his single target Noble Phantasm means that he will still deal decent damage even on non-Evil enemies, aided by Protection’s attack buff and his Military Tactic skill. Meanwhile his third skill’s critical star generation increases his critical hit reliability, especially when paired with other supports. Although Vlad’s ATK stat may seem slightly low at first, the 1.05 Lancer modifier somewhat fixes this.
However, as with most hybrid Servants, Vlad does not exactly excel on either side. His Taunt only lasts for one turn, and his defense buff is not enough to reach the 100% mark without support from a major defense buffing Servant. On the damage department, his NP damage up does not affect his other cards, meaning that he will deal rather mediocre damage outside his Noble Phantasm. His critical star generation also needs additional setup to be truly useful, due to his lower-than-average star weight.
Pros
Good NP Gain.
Decent survivability.
Good utility.
Decent damage, particularly on NP.
Cons
Needs additional help to be effective defensively.
No critical absorption skill.
Mediocre offensive buff.
Strategies & Tips
Vlad Extra is generally used as a main damage dealer against Evil enemies, particularly of the Lancer/Berserker classes. His Taunt is best used to tank normal hits in such compositions, though it is possible to have him tank Noble Phantasms if sufficient defense buffs are available.
Noble Phantasm
Kazikli Bey is a damage dealing Buster-type single-target Noble Phantasm, which deals increased damage when used against Evil enemies. It also grants him an Invincibility ignore effect for one turn. Acting as Vlad’s main source of damage, it should be used as the first card in a heavily-buffed Brave chain with multiple Buster cards.
Waver’s defense buff helps Vlad in stacking defense buffs, and his attack buff increases his damage. Additionally, his low critical star absorption means that Vlad can use more of the stars he generated.
Merlin enhances Vlad’s damage, and amplifies his critical star generation. He also provides heals, which increases Vlad’s survival. However, it is to be noted that Merlin has no defense buff, meaning that the team still has to rely on Merlin’s Invincibility buff as a hard defensive option.
Shielder is the best Servant in the defense-stacking department, able to grant the whole team a 50% defense buff with only her first skill and Noble Phantasm. As such, she goes a long way to help Vlad in tanking Noble Phantasms.
Focuses on increasing the damage of Vlad’s Noble Phantasm. This type of CE is best used for scenarios where Vlad is used as the primary damage dealer, and is the best type of Craft Essence in terms of percentage.
Allows Vlad to make reliable use of the critical stars he generate. The increased critical absorption also indirectly aids his NP gain and damage, making this Craft Essence type recommended in teams able to consistently generate critical stars.
Increases Vlad’s overall survivability, though especially so during his Taunt turns. The increased defense buff also makes defense stacking easier, allowing him to more reliably tank Noble Phantasms.
This skill heals Vlad Extra, as well as increasing his debuff resistance, defense, and attack. This skill is Vlad’s main source of survivability, including the defense buff which is extremely important for his third skill; as such, it is best to level this skill first.
Military Tactics B
Increases Vlad Extra’s NP damage for one turn. As the third skill’s critical star generation may be somewhat unreliable without the correct setup, this skill should be leveled up second if Vlad is to be used only as a damage dealer against Evil opponents. However, if he is to be used for his defensive capabilities as well, his third skill should be prioritized instead.
Innocent Monster A
Taunts enemies to attack Vlad for one turn, as well as generating critical stars every turn for three turns. Unusual for a 1-turn Taunt skill, Innocent Monster A has a 5-turn cooldown at maximum skill level, meaning that Vlad can use it rather often. Still, the critical star generation may only be really helpful in certain compositions. This skill should be leveled second if Vlad is to be used for defense as well.

Vlad’s QQABB deck provides him balance between critical star generation and damage. While it may hinder him from forming Arts chains, his good base NP gain means that Vlad himself should not experience major problems in charging his NP.
