Illyasviel von Einzbern is classified as one of the few attacker type Caster servants besides Xuanzang who deals much more damage with her NP compared to Xuanzang but at the same time provides less utility to her party except with her third skill.
Pros
High damage single target NP. Illya is one of those few Caster class servants that has a Buster type NP that deals significant damage to an enemy. Being able to deal 600% damage at NP Level 1, her NP damage was further increased with the newly introduced Interlude quest that raises the damage up to 800%. Besides that, coupled with her first skill, Cheerful Type Mystic Code that increases her Buster cards performance by 50% at max level for a turn, the damage done is going to be way off the top for a Caster class servant even though she does suffer a bit from the 0.9x damage multiplier trait.
Healing and debuff immunity. Illya’s third skill, Suspicious Medicine has the effect of recovering an ally’s HP by a fixed amount while having 70% chance to grant the target with one turn debuff immunity and guts for three turns. As the skill can be applied onto herself also, it can be used to negate the demerit of having her own attack and defense decreased by 10% for three turns after using her NP.
Cons
NP with demerit. Although Illya’s NP deals a huge chunk of damage to a single enemy, it comes with a demerit that reduces her attack and defense by 10% for three turns, rendering her to deal slightly less damage and takes more in return for consecutive turns. Besides that, even her third skill was designed to help compensate for this disadvantage, it has a fixed 70% chance of success even at max level so it might not be very reliable at times. On the bright side, as it is very unlikely that you will be able to use her NP again within that three turns, you won’t have to worry about having your NP damage reduced by this debuff.
Low NP efficiency. Even though Illya hits up to five times on her Arts cards, she has quite a low NP gain of 0.32%, meaning that her NP gain outside her Arts is pretty bad, even with a five hits Extra attack. Besides that, she also does not have the Territory Creation passive skill like the other Caster class servants, so her Arts cards are going to deal less damage and gain less NP compared to those that have it.
Strategies & Tips
Illya is an attacker type Caster class servant where her main damage output comes from her high damage NP. However, her NP efficiency isn’t really that good so she requires support from her party members to help charge up her NP gauge much faster to allow repeatedly usage of her NP.
Noble Phantasm
Illya’s Noble Phantasm, Quintett Feuer is a single target NP that deals large amount of damage as its overcharge effect increases her Buster performance for a turn that would proc first before the damage is done. Besides that, after completing her Interlude quest it also increases her NP and star generation by 20% for three turns after use to help out a bit with her low NP gain. Do note that it has a demerit of 10% reduction to both attack and defense for three turns so she would be slightly more vulnerable to damage during that time.
As Illya’s Suspicious Medicine skill has a success rate of 70%, Ozy can help to increase it to 100% with his Protection from Ra skill. She can also receive a slight attack buff from Ozy’s Charisma skill to increase her damage output.
Another attacker type Caster that has a same Buster NP as Illya. She helps to improve Illya’s low NP gain with her Sanzang’s Teaching skill that not only increases the party’s NP generation but also gives them debuff immunity for a turn, which helps in mitigating Illya’s NP demerit.
Typical support for servants with Buster type NP who also helps to improve Illya’s NP gain with his NP that charges the party’s NP by 5% every turn for five turns.
Helps to improve Illya’s weakness of having a low NP acquisition rate by raising it by 25% while providing an additional 40% NP charge at the start of the battle, allowing her to use her NP much faster to take down a strong enemy.
As Illya’s NP overcharge effect increases her Buster effectiveness, consider using this CE to increase her NP damage which also comes with 50% NP charge when the battle starts.
When equipped to Illyasviel (Caster) only, increase Quick/Arts/Buster Card effectiveness for all allies by 8% while Illyasviel (Caster) is on the field.

We would like to raise Illya’s first skill first as it directly increases her NP damage by a whole lot when maxed. After that, we turned our attention to her second skill that grants invincibility to herself while increasing her NP generation rate for three turns which helps in charging up her NP gauge much faster. Lastly, even though her third skill can be quite useful at times but due to the probability of it succeeding is not 100%, we leave it as the last skill to be levelled.

Illya has a high number of hit counts on all her command cards except Buster but her NP gain is way below the average for a Caster class. However, she does make up slightly for it with her passive skill Unlimited Prana Supply that charges her NP gauge by 3% per turn.
