Here we have the poster boy, the main protagonist of the Fate/Apocrypha series himself, Astolfo. The honest and kind heroic spirit that save Sieg is sadly not done justice by DelightWorks in this game, being blunt about this, Astolfo is a bad choice and doesn’t deserve a slot in your party most of the time. Fortunately his HP and Attack stats are not an eyesore and are actually really decent, unfortunately his other stats are undeniably bad in the game. Do not be deceived by the three Quick cards in his deck, his Star generation is terrible as even with all these to aid him, he can only produce about 20 stars (give or take a few) with a full Quick brave chain. Things look better with his NP generation, his AQQ chain is comparably to the likes of Orion (although I am a fan of her design, she isn’t a servant you want to be compared to).
With regards to his skills, his first skill features a solid self Attack buff that can go head to head with the Attack buff that the almighty Heracles holds. Despite that fact, you will most probably be turned off by the fact that this only lasts for one turn, pairing this with his NP should be ideal and all is good right? Not really as you need to remember that Quick cards only deal 80% of the damage you would normally deal, hence this buff is merely a means of compensating for that fact. On the brighter side of thing, Astolfo’s second skill stuns an enemy for 1 turn and has a high percentage especially against mobs. His third skill is the icing on the cake for astolfo, it offers a myriad of critical related buff and even a NP charge after the interlude but even if you were going to die, I still wouldn’t trust this skill. This is because each effects is calculated separately which means that even if you were great enough to get the first effect the second effect may not. I would strongly recommend other servants to take Astolfo place, he is just unreliable and easily outclassed but who doesn’t love the cheerful looks and upright spirit of his.
Pros
skills offer a variety of buffs
Heavy Quick deck
NP also offers evasion and crit star
Cons
Too unreliable to be good
Bad Crit star and NP generation
Strategies & Tips
Due to Astolfo heavy Quick deck, it is great to place him on a Quick team. Since he is from the Rider class, he has very good star absorption hence his role on a Quick team would be the critter. We will want to abuse the Crit system as not only will he be able to absorb the stars but it helps compensate for the 80% damage multiplier on Quick cards. It is also strongly recommended to have a support on your team as Astolfo evasion skill isn’t very reliable considering his NP generation isn’t very good.
Noble Phantasm
Astolfo calls upon the help of his faithful Griffin to ride with him against his foes, smashing through all enemies with his Quick type AOE attack which grants evasion for 3 turns and gaining Critical stars too.
This pairing must be mentioned as both can easily benefit from the other plus Astolfo’s weaknesses are covered by the sheer greatness of the Crit potential that Jack offers, nothing much else needs to be said about this dynamic one two punch.
Atalanta kit is made for a Quick team and Astolfo can very well benefit from that, after the Interludes Atalanta does a better job than before and is a pairing for those who aren’t lucky enough to get a Crit generator like Jack the Ripper.
Any servant in the game could benefit one way or another from Zhuge Liang (Lord El-Melloi II) variety of buffs and debuffs, Astolfo is no exception. Especially since Zhuge Liang is great at filling up gauge and Astolfo NP holds a lot of potential as well.
Hans is definitely an option for those looking for a budget support option to pair with Astolfo, he offers his team great offensive buffs like Crit damage and attack buff. However, he has low HP stats and needs another servant to provide the defense utility.
Increase Quick card performance by 25%. This is the go to Craft essence for any Quick based Servant, not only could it mean more damage for Astolfo but also more stars for more reliable Crit as well. This will work especially when you are intending to use him in a Quick team as a Critter.
Increases Quick Card Performance by 8%. Increase NP damage by 8% 30% NP charged from start. If you want something that can help Astolfo but don’t know which area to help, then look no further than the CE “Someday In Summer”. Astolfo can benefit from the charged gauge, Quick card boost and NP damage UP as he gets his NP faster which does a ton more damage with this equipped, a great holistic boost for him.
Increases unit's NP generation rate by 25% Considering the 3 effects from Astolfo’s NP, it would be great for him and the team to take advantage of it hence this is where this CE comes in. Not only will help gain NP on offense but on defense as well, allowing him to fill his gauge faster and abuse the effects it holds.
When equipped on Astolfo, Increases own NP damage by 30% and Grants party evasion for 1 hit when on the field.

Skill (1): Monstrous Strength C-
Increases own attack for 1 turn. As Mentioned before, this effects of this skill is great for the turn you intend to use it but it is also merely a way to compensate for the low damage that his deck and NP holds. With that in mind, this skill should always be used with his NP so as to abuse the high damage multiplier his NP holds.
Down with a Touch!
Chance to stun one enemy for 1 turn. This skill is great to prolong a turn for you but it has a high cooldown of 8 turns even at max level. Also it is worth noting that bosses have debuff resistance and can negate the effects of this skill completely hence do not rely during crunch time.
Evaporation of Sanity D
65% Chance to gain Critical Stars per turn (3 turns). 65% Chance to increase Star Generation (3 turns). 65% Chance to increase Critical Damage (3 turns). Charges own NP. (Only After interlude 2) No matter how good 65% looks like, this skill makes it feel like you won a mini lottery every time any of the effects is activated. This is the best but yet the worst part about Astolfo’s kit, it can the catalyst for great Critical damage but it can also be the downfall of your team when you really need it. After the interlude 2, you should primarily use this skill for the NP charge but players should know that this skill even after the interlude has a high cooldown and should be used wisely.
Astolfo’s kit is primarily Quick cards hence at any stage of the game, he will always find a use for his first skill. However, if your team can’t reliably proc his NP for the evasion then It is better to max his third skill first as it can be his life saver. His second skill is a powerful skill but it’s not reliable and has a long cooldown, thus it is not advisable to max his second skill before the rest.

It a pity that such a great rider is accompanied by a deck that he cannot take advantage of. He only gains about 20 stars with a full Quick brave chain, which devalues the great servant astolfo and the power of a Quick dense deck. Nevertheless, he is great when accompanied by a servant like Jack the Ripper, who can definitely use the 10 extra Crit stars with a Quick chain which you are more likely to get with Astolfo.
