The Assassin version of Shiki remains a highly powerful unit, even one year after her release. Boasting a self-sufficient kit and NP5, she is one of the best, if not THE best, *4 Assassin currently in the game. Due to her Assassin class and good hitcount, she possesses some extent of critical affinity, which enables her to perform well in more situations. While contenders (such as EMIYA (Assassin) possess below average Arts buff modifiers, Shiki’s buff stands at the full 50% modifier at max level, further solidifying her advantage. Her NP also has a chance to instakill - which, while usually not relevant against high-level bosses, can be highly beneficial against larger non-boss enemies.
Shiki’s main weakness, if any, is that her normal attacks have low damage potential thanks to her deck composition and Assassins’ 0.9 modifier - meaning that she has to rely almost exclusively on her NP for damage. This may create some troubles in mid-level quests, where her NP’s damage would be wasted on mobs, but their HPs are not low enough to kill easily via normal attacks. Additionally, she also possesses no sustaining ability, making her somewhat support-reliant in certain situations.
Pros
High damage single target NP
Instant kill occasionally allows a much easier clear
Versatility thanks to good NP gain and critical star generation
Bypasses most defensive options
Cons
Weak normal attacks
No healing ability, third skill decreases HP
Lacks critical damage affinity
Strategies & Tips
Shiki should be used along with Arts-oriented support Servants, making up for her lack of survivability and allowing a much faster NP cycle. In combat, her third skill should be used whenever possible, as long as it wouldn’t result in NP charge overflow. Her NP is ideally used against at least mid-priority targets, though its actual usage generally depends on whether she can ensure another NP against the stage’s boss.
Noble Phantasm
Yuishiki: Chokushi no Magan deals damage to a single enemy, ignoring their defense and coming with a chance to instantly kill the opponent. The instant kill should generally be viewed as a ‘bonus’, especially against high level bosses, who possess high instant death resistance - though against most non-Servant mobs, her instant kill can be rather reliable.
As an Arts-oriented damage dealer, Shiki benefits greatly from Tamamo, as the latter provides both a powerful Arts buff as well as healing, which are extremely important. Tamamo’s NP’s NP charge also allows Shiki perform her NP more often, while at the same time, the cooldown reduction enables Shiki’s first skill to keep up with the team’s NP cycle.
Gilgamesh’s kit - which supports Arts-oriented Servants and their critical star generation - works well with Shiki. Aside from damage and Arts performance up, Gilgamesh’s lower critical weight also allows Shiki’s command cards to attract more critical stars, thereby increasing her critical reliability.
From a kit standpoint, Shuten does not possess nearly as much synergy as the above Servants, though her Arts affinity and critical star generation certainly go well with Shiki’s overall role. However, she is in this list as both of them share the same class, which makes their combination much more popular than it may initially seem - especially as using Caster supports would be somewhat disadvantageous in Rider-heavy stages. Shuten also provides a mean to kill multiple enemies in one go, a function which Shiki lacks.
As expected from a Servant whose main source of damage is her NP, these CEs work great for Shiki, especially in ideal compositions thanks to the NP buff’s good scaling against most possible Supports.
The main benefit of using this type of CE is that they also benefit Shiki’s normal cards - thereby increasing her overall performance - while still benefiting her NP, through both damage and NP gain.
While Shiki is able to generate some amount of stars, she is not usually able to make use of them reliably. This CE type enables her to perform critical hits much more reliably, thereby enhancing the usefulness of her second skill, and higher overall NP gain.

Mystic Eyes of Death Perception A
Shiki’s primary offensive buffing skill, Mystic Eyes grants her an Invicibility Pierce buff for one turn, as well as boosting her Arts performance and reducing an opponent’s instant kill resistance for one turn. As this skill will always be used along with her NP, its cooldown is especially important to ensure that she can benefit from it at all times.
Eye of the Mind (False) A
An Evasion skill, this skill also increases Shiki’s critical damage for three turns. While it does increase her normal attacks’ potential, due to cooldown concerns it’s likely to be used mostly for the defensive aspect at lower skill levels.
Yin Yang B
Charges Shiki’s NP gauge, at the cost of reducing her HP by 1000. While she cannot go below under 1 HP from this skill’s demerit, repeated usage hurts her already somewhat questionable survivability even more. As such, this skill should be used with care.

Shiki’s QQAAB deck means that she can both gain NP reliably and gather some critical stars. However, it comes at a cost of lower normal card damage due to a lack of Buster cards, though this is less of a problem due to Assassins possessing lower damage modifier to begin with. It also grants her access to an Arts Brave chain.
